The Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:10-12

Prepare Each Morning

As children of God, we will be constantly attacked by the evil one. These attacks can be on our minds, our hearts, and our bodies. Each day we must prepare ourselves for this. Every morning I pray for the armor of God to be with me throughout the day. I pray my heart, mind, and soul be protected from the evil one and that I may stay on task that day to achieve God’s will.

Much of what the devil does is distract us from what God wants us to achieve. The evil one does not want us to achieve the greatness God has in store for us. If you have an idea of what you think God’s will for you is, he may try to make you feel inferior or full of fear. He may put voices in your head like, you’re too dumb, you can’t achieve that, or surely that task is for someone else to complete.

Being Mindful of Thoughts

Before I began meditations with the Lord, I would often believe these attacks. Now I know these are lies and distractions. The armor of God prayer has taught me to learn to release negativity in my mind or tactics the evil one uses to distract me from living in the present. These can look like negative thoughts or thoughts of worry replaying over and over in your mind. It could also look like useless, unimportant thoughts overfilling your mind that are on constant repeat cycle.  All of which take away from our time with God, our family, and friends because we are lost in these useless and insignificant thoughts.

Prayers for Protection

A strategy I use when I am feeling attacked by the evil one is to say “release” if my mind is being overwhelmed. If I feel a deep attack on my mind, body, or heart, I will say “Lord, protect me “out loud or to myself. If I can, I will take time to say a prayer to St. Michael the archangel. The devil is always ready to attack if you are caught off-guard. Its easy to allow his attacks to snowball if you allow. But you have the power to stop him in his tracks. Don’t allow the evil one to prevent you from reaching God’s will in your life. Remember his number one trick is to distract. Be aware, be alert, and put on the armor of God every morning before you begin your day.
